For bug reports, questions, or feature suggestions:
Getting files into MarkRead
- Link a folder. Tap the folder icon in the library and grant access to a directory — an iCloud Drive folder, an Obsidian vault, or any folder your device can see. MarkRead reads files in place; nothing is copied or uploaded.
- Import a file. Use the import button to bring a single file into MarkRead's own storage.
- Open in. From the Files app or any app that supports the share sheet, choose "Open in MarkRead". MarkRead also appears under On My iPhone in the Files app.
Supported extensions: md markdown mdown mkd mdtext text txt
Diagrams aren't showing
Mermaid diagrams are rendered entirely offline — no network connection is needed. If a diagram isn't appearing, check that the fenced code block is labelled mermaid (lowercase) and that the diagram syntax is valid. Paste it into the Mermaid live editor to check for errors.
A folder I linked has disappeared
iOS can revoke folder access if the folder is moved, renamed, or if the app hasn't been opened for a while. Remove the folder from MarkRead's library and re-add it to restore access.
Images aren't loading
Local images (referenced with a relative path) resolve relative to the document they're in. If a local image isn't showing, check that the path is correct relative to the file's location. Remote images require a network connection and will not load if the device is offline.
What MarkRead doesn't do
MarkRead is a reader, not an editor. It also doesn't support: reference-style links, footnotes, raw HTML blocks, or definition lists. If you're hitting a rendering issue with a specific document, email me a copy and I'll take a look.
